Palliative care

Posted by Anne Orchard on Jul 24 2009 | Cancer Words P

Palliative care is a term used to describe the care and management of people and their illnesses, where the care is not expected to cure the illness. Palliative care may be for people whose disease is terminal (they are expected to die from it) or simply where they have a long-term condition which needs care or treatment to improve their quality of life.

Palliative cancer care may be delivered in hospital, hospice or at home.
